Institutions need to envision themselves as part of a larger collaborative and cross-sectorial network rather than as singular digitization projects, in order to create open systems that can fully participate in the vision of the semantic Web, enable relationship mapping, and produce high-quality metadata that can be brought into a global knowledge sphere.
